Our History

“Let everything take second place
to our care of our children…
If from the beginning
we teach them to love true wisdom,
they will have greater wealth and glory
than riches can provide.”
St. John Chrysostom

Good Shepherd School has served Western Loudoun families since 2011. First established as a Montessori Preschool Program, we have expanded to include an academically excellent classical elementary program for grades 1-6 in September 2017, and a classical middle school program for grades 7-8 in September 2018.

Good Shepherd School is steeped in the Roman Catholic tradition and faithfully adheres to the teachings of the magisterium.  All our classes incorporate Catholic Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, foster growth in virtue, and in the classical tradition develop a love of the Good, the True, and the Beautiful.

Our campus, located at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Purcellville, Virginia, has indoor and outdoor environments crafted for academic pursuit and the exploration of nature. Classrooms are crafted with an eye for beauty, many natural materials, and child-sized furniture. Our outdoor space includes a garden and wildlife areas, a small stage with seating, a picnic and lunch area, a play structure, and a field with plenty of space for running. The Blue Ridge Mountains overlook our campus.

Additionally, our Elementary classes use space once a week at Joyful Child Atrium, located about a mile away in downtown Purcellville. Their teachers lead Atrium there, along with time spent at the adjacent nature park, exploring their woods, gardens, and creek, working on guided nature study, science, and other academic pursuits.

Good Shepherd School gained 501(c)3 non-profit status in 2014. We are motivated by our desire to provide an excellent yet affordable education, tailored to the individual needs of each child. Come join us now so you and your family can enjoy the benefits of a close-knit school community that puts children and families first!
