Please allow me to tell you a bit about myself.

I am a cradle Catholic, born and raised in southeastern Wisconsin – God’s country.  I studied the liberal arts at Wabash College and then took a Master’s degree in Teaching Mathematics at Vanderbilt University before taking my first teaching position in Georgia.  The road of my life has taken many interesting turns, one of which took me to a career in IBM, followed by another which brought me to Romania in 1994 to visit a Catholic kindergarten.  On this visit, my English-speaking guide, Liana Pogorilovschi, snagged my heart and she is now my wife and the Mother of our four children whom we have raised here in Romania: Sam, Francesca and Luke (twins) and Clara (deceased).  We have just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary – and with our children all nearing the end of their university years, I embarked on a search for the next turn in our road – which has brought us to GSS.  Liana and I look forward to getting to know each one of you – and to mutual nourishment in our new faith community.

Though having been away from America these many years, we have remained in close touch with our family and friends in America through annual summer visits.  We are well-aware of the worldwide erosion of our Christian culture that has left America divided as never before.  This polarization together with the COVID-19 pandemic, present what may seem to be unprecedented challenges.  However, I take encouragement from knowing that God has seen all of this and worse – many times before – and His Providence has carried the day in all cases as it will in this one.

Until we meet in person, please accept our heartfelt thanks for being given this opportunity to join your community – a community in which everything else takes “second place to the care of our children.”

This is the Day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
